GTP Foundation named Excellence Team AND wins the NJTL Excellence Cup!
There are only 13 Excellence Teams across the country and we are honored to be chosen to be one! It is because of the level of play of our athletes that we were given this opportunity. The Excellence Team participants will have the opportunity to compete in different activities throughout the year such as the Excellence Team Cup, the College Combine, USTA Player Development training workshops and others. We are also given grant money to help our kids travel to tournaments. It’s a great program that we are thrilled to be a part of. We are also thrilled to announce that John Isner (ATP top 10 player) has come on board as GTP’s Excellence Team Ambassador! Everyone at GTP is cheering for you and we couldn’t be more proud to be TEAM ISNER!
As one of only 13 Excellence Teams around the country, GTP was honored to send 4 participants and a coach to the Excellence Team Cup held in Washington DC this July. The USTA Foundation hosts the event for Boys and Girls 10 and under. The 4-day event was action packed with chapter battles, a spelling bee, a one-point tournament, a tour of DC and a trip to the Citi Open. The kids got to meet WTA Top 10 player Sloane Stephens and Gil Reyes, former strength and conditioning coach for Andre Agassi. Coach Tony Mulé led GTP team members Seth Christian, Alyese Boykins, Liam Wilson and Gabriella Slovak to victory in GTP’s first ever Excellence Team Cup!
NJTL Essay Contest Winner: Jesse Simpson
This year’s essay question asked: “This year marks the 50th anniversary of NJTL. What specific impact do you hope your chapter can make in your community today that you would want remembered 50 years from now?” To enter the contest, students were asked to answer this question in an essay of fewer than 350 words.
As a winner, Jesse received this once in a lifetime trip to the US Open! We are SO proud of you, Jesse!
